Debut studio album by Mia Young, rapper from New Orleans, Louisiana, known under the moniker Mia X. In 1993, she released an EP and the following year, she's the first girl to sign for Master P's No Limit, joining the TRU group. Production of the record is performed by Mobey Dick aka Mo B Dick, Al Eaton, K-Lou, Tre-8, KLC and Master P. Guests are Master P, TRU, Conscious Daughters, Suga T and Tre-8.
The rhythms chosen by these guys are the weak point of the whole project: the musical carpets are overly slow and dilated, made up of meager downtempo drums, minimal funky / mobb samples and some casual and cheap g-funk synths. Mia X does a really nice job of picking up the tracks, she has a good regular flow, a hardcore style that is sometimes too stiff and decent lyrics, and in the end, she builds a discreet southern rnb product. Probably, the first track "Ghetto Sarah Lee" is the best mirror of the CD: simple rhythm, one of the few really good in the tape, boom bap with lean downtempo drum machine, fat bass line, funky samples and good bridge on the hook. Slow, flowing and unstoppable delivery of Mia X, accompanied by the hardcore and slow rap of Conscious Daughters. It's a very strong cut, at three minutes; at six, it becomes deleterious.
Few other songs try to stand out ("MIssion 2 Get Paid", "Here Comes the Drama", title track, "Ghetto Ties"), while the guests do their homework. Consisting of 14 tracks (3 skits) and 58 minutes of listening, the album is distributed by No Limit and Priority, however, it fails to make it into the Billboard charts.
Rating: 6/10.
