Mastamind — Lickkuidrano EP

Debut EP by Detroit rapper Gary "Mastamind" Reed, known for being one of the members of Natas, along with Esham and TNT. Esham is the producer of the tape and guest on "Bitcheshate", along with Dice.

Mastamind produces an extended play of six short songs and just over eighteen minutes of listening, focusing on horrorcore themes performed with a slow, syncopated, monotonous, at times hardcore style. The rhythms of Esham are there, they're not bad and they're not good: he maintains a rusty and excessively thin drum, to which it combines some discreet dark samples, elements sufficient to allow Mastamind to have a musical carpet on which to go quiet for a good quarter of an hour without too many stumbles (the rhythm of "Bus 1, 4 Me!" is the least successful). "Bitcheshate" emerges as the best tune, thanks not only to the added interpreters Esham & Dice, but also to the best beat of the edition, dark, with perfect drum and good dark samples. In summary, Mastamind isn't the best MC of the year, but he's fine, horrorcore fans might find something interesting here or in the extended edition of the EP, which features twelve more original songs. 6/10.
