Theresa Beth was born in Anaheim, California, starting her career as part of the female dance duo Bardeux. Beth left the group after their debut single, "Three-Time Lover". Approaching Eazy-E, Beth takes the moniker of Tairrie B (pronounced "Terry"), and signs with NWA's member label Ruthless Records. In 1990 she releases her debut studio album.
Probably the first rap album of a white female rapper. Tairrie B obtains distribution with the major MCA after signing with Comptown Records, a branch of Ruthless Records created by Eazy-E as a label for records with lighter material than that released by NWA. Tairrie B's debut album will be the only one on the label, which will then be dissolved by Eric Wright.
Produced mainly by Tairrie B herself and QD III, with some rhythms provided by Schoolly D ("Anything You Want", "Schooll's In"), Greg Kuehn and Bilal Bashir, while Eazy-E ("Anything You Want", "Player"), Everlast ("Vinnie tha' Mocha"), The DOC and Dr. Dre ("Player") are featured on this album. The LP is quite discreet, it has many funky, minimal and simple, decent rhythms, but all similar to each other, a few functional hooks scratched, and a pretty decent confident delivery sometimes in rapping, sometimes spoken, sometimes hardcore, often defiant and tough, however she never feels too aggressive, she doesn't have that enthralling energetic violence NWA: in "Murder She Wrote" she goes well with a better rapping than the rest of the album and a better production.
She's devastating in the "Ruthless Bitch" ending. In the albums of Ruthless, usually the last track presents a posse of NWA with some or all the major exponents of the group, also this album should have been no exception with "I Ain't Your Bitch", the last cut of the disc, written by Ice Cube, which predicted that guests would eventually have to say "bitch" to the female rapper. She doesn't play along, however, she decides to refuse the posse and rewrites the song in "Ruthless Bitch", which presents a ruthless dissing to Dr. Dre on the fifth and final verse, incredibly ignored and neglected by insiders and fans, to which Dre himself will answer with punches in the girl's face at the 1990 Grammys.
Released by Ruthless through Comptown and MCA, the LP is ignored by public and critics and puts an end to the girl's rap career. In the following years, Tairrie B continues her career in the industry by founding rap metal and death metal bands, finding success with the band My Ruin.
Rating: 6/10.
