Sometimes in the history of music when the stars align in a certain particular way, exceptional and unique events occur that culminate in legendary collaborations that cannot be replicated. The Beatles and Eric Clapton on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", David Bowie and Queen on "Under Pressure", Swizz Beatz and 2Pac here.
The genesis of this album is peculiar. The vault is empty, there's nothing left after the last disk produced by Eminem. This effort is made anyway. Sha Money XL and L.T. Hutton are the main producers and build the set from half produced, the rest is churned out by the aforementioned Swizz Beatz, Orthodox, Ransum, Salih Williams, Capital L.S, EDI Mean and QDIII. With no other verses available, it's necessary to recycle those already released on Shakur's previous efforts and the tracks are stuffed with guests.
Pac is joined by members of his group Outlawz, as well as Krayzie Bone, T.I., Ashanti, Papoose, Carl Thomas, Keyshia Cole, Jay Rock, A3, Young Buck, Chamillionaire, Nipsey Hussle, Young Dre, Lil' Scrappy, Nutso, Ludacris, Keon Bryce, Snoop Dogg, Chris Starr, and Gravy.
Released by Amaru and Interscope, Universal is preparing distribution for the US, Canada, Australia, Europe, Romania, Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Japan, Taiwan, India, Malaysia, Lebanon, and South Africa: the album sold nearly 160,000 physical copies in its first week in the States, finishing at #9 on the pop chart and #3 on the rap one. In the ten years since his death, hip-hop has changed and his name is no longer as familiar to youngsters as it once was, not to mention that the poor quality of the music proposed in these fifty minutes is horrible. The critics as usual do not disappoint and almost unanimously affirm how good the product is. Swizz in the end doesn't even realize the worst beat of the album. 2/10.
