Flee Lord — Lucky 13

Flee Lord's third effort in less than sixty days is a prohibitive pace. Step forward compared to the album previously released with Chase Fetti, but in hindsight, lower than his next album, "Hand Me My Flowers". It's an honest record, it has its strong points, but in large part this is due to the guests that the New York rapper decides to have here: Nems, Conway and Daniel Son, among others. The production made by DJ Shay is simple, light jazzy boom bap, midtempo, carpet on which Flee Lord has shown to be perfectly at ease during the last few months.

It opens a piano dope in the spoken intro of Drea, then Nems immediately rips the following track with a smoothness hardcore flow, then Flee Lord shows that he can calm the uptempo rhythm even with a slow syncopated delivery. The third song features a nice soulful female sample looped tight on a light rhythm, then Daniel Son, Gutta and Conway arrive to animate the central part of the project, without too much quality peaks unfortunately: the first two beats are simple and dark, while the one with the Buffalo rapper sees a syncopated and skinny beat close to the trap, which doesn't fully enhance Con's deeply flowing and determined delivery.

"Heron" looks much better thanks to a jazzy boom bap with skinny and lively drum combined with a deep soulful female sample in the background, dope, and the shortness of the track itself. "We Mobbin'" anticipates a couple of short solo choices, in the first DJ Shay pulls out the usual female soulful sample looped tight accompanied by splendid strings, you can't complain. It closes a Dres outro, in one of the few hard — core deliveries (the dash symbolizes the syncopated style with which the rapper decides to perform this track) by Flee Lord.

Highlights: "Grind to Survive", "Now I'm on Stage", "Made Man", "Heron", "Uptown Flow".

Rating: 7/10.
