Debut for the group founded by Master P and including the Miller brothers, aka C-Murder and Sillk the Shocker. In the TRU, acronym of the original name The Real Untouchables, there are also Sonya C (later wife of Master P), Big Ed, King George, Milkman, Chilee Powdah and Cali G.
The production of the album is cheap, West Coast, has a rather simple and poor funky sound, while the group spits out generic gangsta lyrics and makes minor hardcore cuts. I personally expected to include it among the worst albums of the year, due to the reputation of the southern group, however, in the end, it's one of the few accessible and decent albums in the No Limit catalog.
The introductory track is perhaps the only indecent of the whole album: simple and cheap rhythm, with an eccentric piano and an unlivable snare drum, heavy and tight, tight line in the background, decent delivery of Master P, bad the others, all light-hearted. The second song puts things back in place with an interesting rhythm, livable and accessible pop, hip dance beats, quick and tight snare drum, and decent syncopated deliveries.
The following choices are between mediocre and bad, then there is a decent hip house rhythm in "Fuck the System". "Tell Them What's Going On" is among the best, with simple funky rhythm, little bells, beautiful sax sample, decent syncopated smooth delivery from performers. The following track is also acceptable, accessible funky beat with lean but livable tight heavy drum machine, decent delivery and soul pop hook. In the midst of other poor rhythms and nothing short of random bars, "I Wear a Bullet Proof Vest" stands out: splendid eccentric piano, taut lines in the background, heavy drum lean slow and syncopated drum machine, good deliveries.
