Natas — Doubelievengod

Third studio album by Detroit-based group Natas, consisting of Esham, his cousin TNT and his friend Mastamind.

The tape, entirely produced by Esham, begins well with the title track, which welcomes the performers' fluid slow rap over a dark and disturbing rhythm with poor drum midtempo. This is followed by discrete tracks quite amalgamated with each other, with slow skeletal drums, dark samples, lo-fi rhythms and a decent syncopated rap. Esham and TNT's early solos don't do much to stand out from the rest. Dice gives an easy highlight in "Torture", spitting hardcore along with Esham on one of the best LP productions, poor downtempo drum and messy dark organ.

"We Almost Lost Detroit" musically clashes with the rest of the music, boasting positive, quiet, calm and warm vibes, and smooth delivery from the guys. The middle section is full of ups and downs, it's curious, but I prefer TNT's solo on "Fuck da World" over the other two, I think because of a much better beat and the performer's more inspired rap. The final part is still decent horrorcore on meager and slow sound carpets, before the final outro of Esham, his third. Released by Reel Life, the record, consisting of 18 pieces and 59 minutes, feels too long, full of excessive tracks and ultimately, unnecessary.

Rating: 6/10.
