First album released by the crew 1999 WRITE THE FUTURE, from an idea of the crew 88rising. A quarter of the tape is produced by Andrés Rebellón, the rest credits Hozier, Surprise Chef, RedVeil, The Math, DJ Stanfill, Elijah Waters, Vic Wainstein, The Budos Band, Rich Brian, Bekon, A-Plus, Phoelix, Rook Monore, Craig Balmoris, Jacob Ray, Slint, Wesley Singerman, Sayak Das, Taydex, Vaughn Elsas, Chakra, BIAKO, Sergiu Gherman, Dan the Automator, Eyedress, John Hill, Phum Viphurit, Chasu, BADBADNOTGOOD, Mark McKenna and Tyler Mehlenbacher.
The guests are Ghostface Killah, Rich Brian, Smino, Surprise Chef, Rick Ross, Souls of Mischief, Rook Monroe, Busta Rhymes, Cuco, Warren Hue, Amaarae, Conway the Machine, Westside Gunn, BADBADNOTGOOD, Joey Alexander, Pos, The Budos Band, De La Soul, Dumbfoundead, Dan the Automator, Del the Funky Homosapien, Eyedress, Phum Viphurit, Masiwei, Offset, MILLI, Tiger JK, YOON MIRAE and OK Wang.
The album consists of 24 tracks and 74 minutes of material in a sort of disorganized, irregular, festive and fun playlist. There's unlimited potential in this project, however, the final result of this sort of compilation is a bit below expectations. The album starts in the best way with "Avocado Shake" — a fantastic and layered lush sweet rhythm, with many exquisite tempo changes, credited to eight different producers, which accompanies the singing of Rich Brian and Sean Miyashiro — among the best tracks of the year, unfortunately in the following quarter of an hour it fails to maintain the same level of quality of the introductory track, despite enlisting several rap leaders such as Ghostface, Rick Ross, Souls of Mischief and Busta Rhymes.
The product returns to excel with the seventh choice "Coughdrops", where Warren Hue is joined by Cuco on a smoothness, lush, sweet, sublime rhythm. "I Know Its Late" is another highlight on the record, as is "Mint Chocolate" where Griselda delivers bars on a sweet, enveloping, silky, pure production. It is one of the best moments of 2024. You can't think that the record goes higher than this, and in fact it doesn't. De La Soul tries to reach that height a few minutes later in "Long in the Tooth", signing one of the last highlights of the record, so this sound college rests a bit on itself with some pleasant but somewhat forgettable tracks.
Overall it is a fun project that has its moments and that deserves to be listened to, too bad that the lack of cohesion is at the same time a strong point and a weak point of the record. 7.5/10.
