Drake — Certified Lover Boy

Worst album of the year. Aubrey "Drake" Graham sacrifices his sixth son to the God Algorithm in exchange for the fidelity of the robotic rankings and a few thousand sentient beings in perennial adulation.

21 tracks, 86 minutes, 39 producers, 15 guests. Lil Wayne and Rick Ross save a track, everyone else arrives on autopilot. Drake sometimes remembers to rap, the rest of the time he sings, talks, and mumbles. In the middle of the LP, there's one piece in which the author seems inspired on a decent rhythm. Apart from this, in general, the album isn't good, it's repetitive, boring, soporific, plastic, artificial. The lyrics are hideous, overly sexual, in which misogyny is a boast, without dignity, unwillingly and tiredly recited, and the music is deeply poor, clearly uninspired, trap rhythms far below average.

The result is a grayish, confusing and bland mixture that is difficult to deal with, primarily because it's difficult to understand what it really is. It seems totally irrelevant garbage, every track tends to annoy, to the detriment of the competence of the guests present. The effort allowed him to hit an avalanche of records, but at the end of the year, it was behind Pop Smoke's best-selling album in the US. At the time of writing, this effort is the least appreciated of his discography by critics and the public. Comparisons with his beloved Kanye also seem forced: despite all his problems, Kanye's next album may always be a new masterpiece, while the already poor quality of Drake's material is on the decline.

The cover deserves a side note. It would be the worst of the year for any artist, but on this guy's album it's even more serious than usual. After having listened to terrible albums like this one, I go back to listening to songs that are more conciliatory with life, with family, with affections, cathartic. Like "The Story of Adidon". Amazing. Reading the comments below that youtube video is great, there are some amazing excerpts. Some of these excerpts highlight how in this album, Drake is sending jabs at Kanye, ignoring Pusha T, who would now also be unfair to diss, after he allowed him to recognize the son he was hiding. If you think about those circumstances, and the request that Drake made to his girlfriend a few years ago, this cover is even more out of place.

Rating: 0/10.
