clipping. — There Existed an Addiction to Blood

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the album of the year.

Third studio album by clipping., Los Angeles trio formed by Daveed Diggs, William Hutson, Jonathan Snipes. Ultra-critically acclaimed — except by Pitchfork, who occasionally hits one — the record is a complete mess from start to finish.

Rap overbeat in the intro, then the duo Snipes & Hutson, who handle the entire production of the album, put the loop of a single piano key on the second track, supporting Diggs' spoken word delivery over an unbearable rhythm. Ed Balloon is the best thing on the record in the first ten minutes, then comes "La Mala Ordina" (translated: "the mob/mafia orders"; "mala" means "mob/mafia" in Italian). The title pays homage to the homonymous Italian poliziottesco film ("The Italian Connection") and in the video at least another half a dozen Italian movies of the same genre, then Diggs delivers syncopated on a boom bap with weak drum and good sample of horns. Elcamino spits bars with a decent style, not great, but certainly better than Diggs, then Benny kills the cut with a smooth, regular, dope rap. Diggs returns to the fourth verse, before The Rita provides the sonic wall that ends the song.

For the remaining fifty minutes there is not really something: a guy says something around horrorcore topics, often in spoken word or with a really poor flow-less delivery style that I struggle to consider rapping on poor beats, very minimal or overbeat. The disc is dragged for a long time by the few guests present until closing, a piano that burns for 18 minutes. Quite boring and exhausting, there are moments that are only interesting for noise fans, probably clipping. best work.

Rating: 6/10.
