In late winter of 2020, Princess Nokia released two products that are sides of the same coin, "Everything Is Beautiful" and "Everything Sucks", her second and third studio albums respectively.
Compared to its twin album, it's better in every respect, positive, relaxed, lyrically listenable, musically accessible, production is better, rapping is better, and offers interesting R&B vibes. However, it's not a good album and the artist's performance doesn't convince: Princess Nokia goes effortlessly here, she's on autopilot on generic rhythms and delivering her bars with a technically elementary and weak monotonous rapping.
This is a typical uninspired and purely generic pop rap album. It has its good moments, but also several avoidable slides: "Wash & Sets" is a not completely successful track between pseudo-jazzy trap beats, with an undecided drum on where to bounce, and a shaky delivery, undecided whether to go between the syncopated style and the one a little smoother. "Sugar Honey Iced Tea" finds an incredibly fit performance with the chosen rhythm, finally, with an effortlessly smooth delivery on a jazzy trap production that's more bearable than usual.
The rhythms aren't too bad, but they don't have their own identity: "I Am Free" is among the best, light, good and dark trap, but not too much, unfortunately the effortless and smooth delivery of the rapper cannot adequately enhance the beat. "Heart" probably has the best production on the record, a light lo-fi jazzy trap beat, and it's only one-minute, so easily among the highs of the album if it weren't for the lyrics that's among the worst here, with random lines put together.
In the end, if you want to listen to only one of the two Princess Nokia albums, choose this one, but don't expect much.
Rating: 5/10.
