Flee Lord & Mephux — Pray for the Evil

Yet another work by underground rapper Flee Lord, at least the tenth, fifth collaborative, the first of his 2020, presents the first official work of the Boston producer Mephux.

His production is dirty and aggressive, he draws a simple, lo-fi and sublime jazzy midtempo soundscape that has NY vibes, perfect carpet for street lyrics dropped by the rapper, who spits smoothness bars with a constantly dope flow, albeit without changing too much its themes. Guests also offer excellent evidence: G4 Jag does its job on the hook, while Conway gives deep highlights to track number five. "Pray for the Evil" is an underground effort, solid and brilliant, musically cohesive and lyrically solid, incredibly accessible and one of the best records of Flee Lord, thanks to a basically flawless production: Mephux does a great sound job and does nothing wrong here, everything works fine.

One of the best hip hop projects of the year, with this excellent test, Flee Lord gets on the map, making himself one of the most promising rappers on the circuit.

Highlights: "When My Dough Come". Skit without beat, then light, jazzy midtempo production, ethereal strings in the background, great opening by Flee Lord who kills the cut with a velvet and solid flow, excellent rhythm chosen by Mephux, beautiful. "Steppers". Gorgeous jazzy midtempo rhythm, with piano dope, good and slow verse, syncopated by Flee Lord; Conway the Machine brings here his freestyle verse dropped in "Fire in the Booth, Pt. 1" in February, he tears the track with vehemence, brutality, his smoothness dope flow still destroys everything even though it sounds sublime on that other rhythm. "2020 Mines". Excellent tense, dark and jazzy midtempo beat, good delivery of Flee Lord who rip the song, good functional hook. After Conway, he proves he can kill a song even as a soloist. "Ease the Pain". Simple jazzy midtempo rhythm, splendid with dope strings in the background, excellent song.
