Lord Finesse releases this instrumental disk with his indepedent labels Bossmen and Slice-of-Spice, almost twenty years after his last studio LP. The first CD is excellent (8/10), the second much less (7/10) growing in the final with the last three dope bonus tracks: put together we note a deep decline in the quality of the instrumentals in the second part.
The entire effort lives on jazzy, funky rhythms, often gloomy, tense, skeletal, essential, alternative, light and simple in the second disc, always amazing in its nineties/mid-nineties sound. The bonus tracks are remarkables: "Jewelz" has a supreme beat, anthological jazzy, a Finesse masterpiece for that gem-cut in the OC album. The remix of the Biggie's classic is a taut jazzy production, shiny, clean, essential, slightly inferior to "Suicidal Thoughts", another jazzy masterpiece.
Among the highlights, "Cinematic Soul" boasts a jazzy light beat, cinematic, essential, deep, dark, sample from Annette Peacock's "Survival". "Check Mate" has a jazzy soulful boom bap, dark, tense, deep, smoothness, light, relaxing. "Vibe Out", "Skyline Soul" & "Abstrakt Neo Synopsis" are three amazing high-profile jazzy rhythms that present buckwildians xmas bells in the background to refreshing the tune, at times light, relaxing, with a hint of soulful background, at times essential, with dark vibes. Always wonderful.
The release is completed by a little instrumental EP composed by nine tracks. Lord Finesse drops some jazzy, essential, simple beats ("Doin' What I Want", "Cali Tide 2 Siberian Pipelines", "On da MIC", "Straight Otta Now Rule", "Love vs. Hate"), light, rhythmic, alternative ("Smooth"), dark rhythms ("From Me to U", "Collaboration of Mics"), but without peaks.
Possibly "Ga Head" is the best tune, a light, skeletal, amazing jazzy boom bap who tries to distinguish itself from other rhythms.
Rating: 7.5/10.
