Lord Finesse — From the Crates to the Files: The Lost Sessions

Great compilation album that includes some Lord Finesse's classics and several more or less successful remixes.

Show & Finesse throw out a light and essential jazzy funky boom bap for the remix of "Return of the Funkyman", which under this beat loses its classic aura but remains a great listening. Reverse speech for the next, whose Large Professor remix sounds slightly stale with that bloated, weighted funky rhythm. Then we've two pearls courtesy of Big L: in particular, the remix of "Yes You May", a light and skeletal jazzy funky rhythm well done that finds an excellent powerful delivery of L.

Two versions of "You Know What I'm About", first with then without Coleman, before of "Check Me Out Baby Pah ": a simple jazzy boom bap with tight looped sample that sees the featuring of Page the Hand Grenade, apparently nothing spectacular, his delivery is good (albeit inferior to that of Lord Finesse), but this song opens an infinite series of joints with the buckwildians xmas bells. Already.

The two "S.K.I.T.S." (excellent also the remix of the same Finesse) foresee the same element on a jazzy beat, "Check the Method" sounds so similar to the previous ones that it seems a sort of "S.K.I.T.S. 3", also "Pull Ya Card" maintains tha[t] Christmas tradition — if you listen well, the bells are still evident in the background — on a jazzy carpet, it's up to Joe and Armageddon directly from the Terror Squad (now Flow Joe is no longer in the DITC roster, is not to be considered a member since the late nineties) stop those bells: this doesn't mean the piece is less [good] than the previous ones, it's probably something in the delivery of the two emcees of the Terror Squad crew.

The compilation released by Fat Beats is fully up to the best Finesse's LPs and despite the fact that in that highlighted part there are several tracks that are really similar, it's a nice comp, check it.

Rating: 7/10.
