Short project by The Alchemist, a producer who's still in shape and riding the last waves of the new mafia undertows: the title doesn't reflect the content of the tape — it's exclusively recalled by a sample of "The Sopranos" — as much as the cover, which is clearly typical of a jazz album.
The Alchemist creates boom bap rhythms that have a bluesy identity and form the soundscapes to the bars of Earl Sweatshirt, Navy Blue, Boldy James, Sideshow, Pink Siifu and Maxo. Nobody really disappoints, Boldy James is subdued and Maxo's lyrics are better than his own dull, listless and effortless execution, Sideshow surprises, Pink Siifu is good and Sweatshirt dominates, performing back n forth with Navy Blue in "Nobles" and getting the final short solo joint. The effort is impeccable, the rhythms are sublime and practically no one makes mistakes: while "Nobles" makes its way as the finest track, "Holy Hell" is its best competitor among instrumentals, thanks to an ethereal female melodic sample on downtempo drum. Great EP. 7.5/10.
