The second LP by Show & AG is produced mostly by Showbiz, along with Lord Finesse, DJ Premier, DJ Roc Raider and Dres. The guests are Lord Finesse, Diamond D, Ghetto Dwellas, Wali World and Method Man.
Mafioso rap is the most popular genre in 1995 New York hip hop. The duo released "Goodfellas" as its second album, but the title's deceptive because it's not a mafia record (the reference is to the A.G. crew), the effort doesn't differ much from the previous one: it's jazzy, with hard tight drums and good melodic samples from sixties and seventies.
The production faces a darker sound than the previous one, the duo gives one beat to Finesse, Dres and Premier, but both don't stand out in the middle of those of Showbiz, which goes to his credit for having created a flawless sound throughout the project. Hard, rough and obscure boom bap beats are the musical carpet for the Diggin in the Crates rappers.
Show leaves the mic to A.G.: lyrically, the kid stays in his comfort zone most of the time and almost never goes outside of bravado and self-celebration, creating a numerous series of battle rap pieces. His flow is regular, good, and he's helped by some well-placed guest as Party Arty, who boasts a rough and heavy flow that fits this kind of somber production better than him, is dominant, D-Flow, DITC and Method Man. The disk runs smoothly, the listening remains accessible despite street topics and the noir mood that surrounds one of the last noble album of D.I.T.C.
Released by Payday and FFRR, distributed by ILS (sub-label of PolyGram), the effort is appreciated by critics and fans, but the sell numbers are below expectations.
Rating: 8/10.
