U.G.K. — Banned EP

Just over three months after the release of the previous EP, the Under Ground Kingz are back and on August 1st they release their second effort, again for the Bigtyme Recordz.

The production is entrusted exclusively to Pimp C and the record features an intro, two cuts and two instrumentals for a total of about twenty-five minutes. From the point of view of the arguments, the Texan duo remains anchored to the braggadocio, spitting light-hearted bars and gangsta with some misogynistic taste. After the simple intro, with a light lo-fi and dark rhythm supported by a skinny syncopated and tight drum on which Bum B can run his flow, one of the first classics of the legendary duo, "Pregnant Pussy", funny tune arrives on a light and lively lo-fi rhythm, the rappers deliver effortlessly.

The instrumental follows, then the second track, "Mutha Ain't Mine", skit with girl, then simple production, funky lo-fi beat with slow drum and slow smoothness delivery of the duo; there's a splendid jazzy sample from a classic which, going to research, isn't "Whatcha See is Whatcha Get" by Dramatics, but "Darkest Light" by Lafayatte Afro Rock Band, a wonderful joint that deserves to be revisited separately. The choice that closes this second work is the instrumental of the previous one. In conclusion, it's a quite short and skinny EP from UGK, but it doesn't disappoint.

Rating: 7/10.
