Mac Dre — California Livin' EP

The sober cover should give you clues as to what this dope EP will treat. The effort is composed by five tracks produced by Khayree, mixed by Chris Boggs and divided in Romp Side and Crest Side. The tape is released with Khayree's label Strictly Business Records.

The title track has a splendid energetic, minimal, and essential rhythm, powerful boom bap with skinny and syncopated drum machine, West Coast party vibes, festive, with synth g-funk in the background. It's written by Coolio and The Mac. Mac Dre delivers syncopated and fun, creating a cheerful banger. After the instrumental, it follows other honest joints, but not up to the banger: the rapper keeps West Coast vibes festive in the third song, minimal and g-funkian beat with a skinny and regular drum machine and heavy g-funk synth looped deep in the background. A simpler production follows, with the usual g-funk synth looped tight and deep in the background and a skinny and minimal syncopated drum machine, "A Piece from Khayree" closes, where the Bay Area producer provides a simple and minimal instrumental track, with a lean and regular drum machine that returns light vibes. On these tracks, Mac Dre delivers syncopated and smooth, mainly dealing braggadocio themes. 7/10.
