Pooh-Man (MC Pooh) — Funky As I Wanna Be

MC Pooh returns with his sophomore, under the name of Pooh-Man with whom he will face the rest of his musical career. The debut of this '71 class rapper from the Bay Area was another thing, but really another thing, I recommend it again in place of this listen of over an hour.

The lyricism is bare gangsta, simple bars delivered with a slow syncopated style, while the production done by Ant Banks is simple, funky, decent. The album doesn't get off to a bad start, but MC Breed adds little to the bouncy drum of "Don't Cost a Dime" and Pooh's delivery is monotonous. The third track is close to hip house and the following joints are mediocre: in "Mellow Man" the boy delivers light-hearted without desire on a weak rhythm with a weak hook, the following two choices are mediocre.

Ant Banks and Too Short revive the album in "Racia": simple and minimal rhythm, the guests here are more tired and lazier than Pooh-Man, lazy and slow drum machine, but the track is superior to the others; from here, the record starts to be really slow to overcome and we are just halfway through the LP. The eighth pick has a classic sample on lazy funky rhythm, then comes the sexual ballads, simple and annoying rhythms, distant functional soul samples, slow whispered delivery of the rapper. The instrumental of "Mellow Man" precedes the final track, which is average. Only note of merit: the cover is the most squalid of the year among hip-hop records.

MC Pooh has done better in his career, not recommended. 4/10.
