Organized Konfusion — Organized Konfusion

Excellent debut album by Organized Konfusion, duo composed of Larry "Prince Po" Baskerville and Troy "Pharoahe Monch" Jamerson, who presents himself here with a great alchemy. The production, made by the same duo, ditches a kind of masterpiece album: the rhythms are dark and hard funky, a little jazzy a little mediocre.

Lyricism, especially Monch's, holds this record high among the best efforts of the year: the duo has fun with different carefree cuts ("Audience Pleasers", "Who Stole My Last Piece of Chicken?") and braggadocio ("Fudge Pudge"), as well as songs dedicated to political issues ("Releasing Hypnotical Gases", "Prisoners of War") and religious ("Open Your Eyes"), written using good word games and a large vocabulary, and delivered with a complex and fresh rapping style, multi syllabic and rapid flows. It also presents the debut of OC, already a friend of the duo living in the same building. It's an important record and you can find different analogies with the debut of Nas: the duo comes from Queens, with different topics, an intelligent use of vocabulary, multi-syllabic phrases, fresh, fast and agile flows, a jazzy production, amazing tracks and Monch is almost 19 when the album is released.

Highlights: "Fudge Pudge", "Releasing Hypnotical Gases", "Prisoners of War", "Roosevelt Franklin".

Rating: 8.5/10.
