French Montana's fourth studio album comes out almost by surprise, in mid-November, a few weeks after the announcement. There are over 30 people in production, but the music seems to be more punctual and focused than the rapper's previous mainstream releases: Hitmaka is the busiest beatmaker, alongside him appear French Montana himself, Harry Fraud, Diddy, Boi-1da and Cardiak. Guests are John Legend, Rick Ross, Kodak Black, Pop Smoke, Lil Durk, Saweetie, Doja Cat, Fivio Foreign, Fabolous, 42 Dugg, Col Leray, Ty Dolla Sign, Latto, Lil Tjay and Moneybagg Yo: most of these rappers and singers overshadow French. In particular, Rick Ross, Saweetie, Doja Cat, Fivio Foreign, Latto and MoneyBagg Yo.
20 tracks plus a bonus (pretty good remix, with a lively beat), over an hour of material. French is never interesting, I don't care what he's saying, also because he's not saying anything and the lyrics are shoddy and ridiculous, acted in a bad style, he doesn't seem to have much personality or good rapping or good voice. As in several other albums of him, it starts well, then collapses after about five-six minutes without getting up again. Guests occasionally give it a shake, but this lifeless product is gone.
Typical badly done pop rap / trap album. It marks what appears to be the definitive end of French Montana as a leading rapper in the mainstream, despite being released by Coke Boys and Bad Boy with a Sony distribution via Epic. Never recommended, his noteworthy material is still that of his debut time on the mixtape circuit. 2.5/10.
