The Alchemist — This Things of Ours 2 EP

Second chapter of "This Thing of Ours", The Alchemist still plays on the mafia reference to "Cosa nostra". The producer is admirable for trying to showcase unknown rappers every time.

The production is fresh, dark and solid, unique, nevertheless, the overall performance of the boys disappoints. The ethereal rhythm of "Miracle Baby" doesn't fit with Mavi's fluid style, which still brings home an acceptable song. MIKE is speaking over a jazz rhythm with an attenuated drum machine: among the several positive notes of this short project, is the fact that it never features hooks, however, this dude just can't do without it.

Detroit-based group Bruiser Brigade falls short of expectations, forcibly delivering eclectic and extravagant on one of Alchemist's least inspired productions of the year. "Wildstyle" sounds better and the merit is more of the rhythm than the rap. Vince Staples closes the effort, this guy spits effortlessly on an honest beat. There are several positive notes that make it an overall decent project, albeit not essential, although the feeling remains that anyone else from Flee Lord to Planet Asia would have done a lot better than these guys. 6/10.
