The Alchemist — Carry the Fire EP

The Alchemist brings out an EP homage to the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games, putting together eight very short songs for a total of just under ten minutes.

The tape maintains triumphant sounds, with which it opens and closes, it's short, but strong in its sound content, with different rhythm changes within the same cuts, despite the brevity. It's a rich listening, but it also feels a little held back, closed and not adequately allowed to breathe, each of these rhythms deserved an extra minute or two. The producer chooses excellent samples and drums that cannot be discussed, having said that, I feel that his sound is very close to that of the disco and the new age sometimes, with ethereal breaks: the sudden pressing strings of the title track, and the alarming and frantic ones of the next cut are the highlights of this fantastic, but too short tape.

Rating: 6.7/10.
