Big Kahuna OG & Monday Night — Shark Report

Second collaborative tape between the rappers of Richmond, Virginia, Big Kahuna OG & Monday Night, following "Thug Tear", an effort of the past year, appreciated by the public. For both, this is the first effort of 2021, with a production accredited entirely to Big Kahuna OG and 3WaySlim to cover the role of the only guest of the edition. The cover bites (pays homage?) that of one of the best EPs of the past year.

From the first rhythm, there are serious problems in the mixing: generic and confused rhythm, messy, but with elements that were promising. Jazzy and melodic samples, drum and the delivery of Monday Night in its only solo cut, mix in a sort of three-minute jumbled noise, to the point that I doubt there was anyone in the making of the mix. The following song is Big Kahuna OG's only solo and presents the same problems as the previous one. The sound improves slightly with the arrival of the only guest, 3WaySlim, on a generic boom bap with decent slow drum and ethereal-melodic female soul sample, in which the duo spits bars worthily.

In the second part of the tape, the quality drops and thumping and annoying snare drums arrive to kill the songs, in an interesting but useless attempt to create a sonic contrast with the relaxed deliveries of the two performers. "Dance 2 the Death" is particularly lazy, one of the less inspired tracks on the tape, supported by a downtempo snare drum. The seventh choice doesn't feel better, with a tight and annoying snare drum, it closes an almost decent five-minute track.

23 minutes divided into 8 songs, it's not a good follow-up compared to the first work of the two artists, they're not at their best in production and rapping, so, it's not an essential listening. 5/10.
