Tragicomic phase in the career of Kool Keith, once a respected storyteller, now terrifyingly forgotten. He's really trying all to get back actual, failing very often: every now and then, he gets up with some lucky projects, but the numerous falls are leaving behind incurable ailments in his vast discography.
This is an EP consisting of six songs, one of which skit, and thirteen minutes, which slips away without leaving anything to the listener: Keith, on his umpteenth project, collaborates with Grant Shapiro. Poor boom bap, lazy drum, decent sample: this is the musical carpet of the first five tracks, skit included. They all sound the same and, on these beats, the interpreter repeats the title of the song several times until the annoyance as if it were a kind of hook, then he spits bars at random and with a listless, weak style, more in spoken word than in rapping. The only variation is the final piece, which stands out musically from the others for its annoying sample and its extravagant drum.
EPs are now clearly his dimension, I don't think he can seriously take a solo album anymore, not alone, but the man has to work, otherwise this kind of material is useless: there are too many, too many rappers better than him. Only on the East Coast. It's not '99 anymore.
Rating: 4.5/10.
