Fourth studio album for rapper Rasheed Chappell, ninth for producer Buckwild, on his fifth and last LP in 2020. The guests of the edition are Che Noir, 38 Spesh, Ransom, Planet Asia, The Musalini, Durgaveli, Yolanda Sargeant and Sugahill.
The first tune, "Tour Bus", is immediately one of the best: jazzy boom bap, energetic, with a slow and light relaxed drum and good samples. Rasheed Chappell's slow and smooth syncopated delivery, then Che Noir kills the cut with flawless, regular, smooth, dope style; it closes 38 Spesh, with a slow and spoken style.
The title track features Shannell Griggs offering a kind of freestyle from prison, while "Rock Bottom" features Ransom as a guest: jazzy boom bap, good samples, slow and light drum pounding, adequate slow delivery of Chappell, then Ransom rips the track with a regular, velvet, energetic, dope flow.
The rest of the tape fails to maintain the same quality, but it never drops below a certain level and is quite discreet. Track number four is a rare Rasheed Chappell solo cut: boom bap with rapid drum pounding, and looped bagpipes in the background, the rapper delivers with a slow and decent style. Yolanda Sargeant delivers a rnb hook in the following track, over a hard, pounding Buckwild rhythm.
"Bredren" features a boom bap with hard and slow drum, tightly looped female soul sample in the background, and Planet Asia's contribution to rapping, which closes the track. The emcee from New Jersey maintains a syncopated and slow style even in the following song: excellent melodic soulful choir by Durgaveli, perfect drum midtempo, boom bap dope by Buckwild.
Rasheed Chappelle's slow flowing syncopated delivery, The Musalini boasts an almost spoken, slow, regular style. Skit on the same previous rhythm, then jazzy soundscape with dark and tense sample, without drum for "The Blue Hood", good rapping by Chappell. Sugahill provides the background for the 10th piece, jazzy rhythm with hard thumping drum and good samples, the MC maintains his typical style, while being more inspired in the final solo choice. Buckwild's dark boom bap, good samples and slow, hard and pounding drum machine, here the rapper delivers more energetic than usual.
Composed of 11 cuts for a total of about 34 minutes of listening, released by Boston label Get On Down, it could be the best product created by Rasheed Chappell in the course of his musical career, thanks also to an inspired lyricism, while his performance devoid of personality always leaves a little to desire. Buckwild offers a couple of excellent rhythms, but otherwise his production is simply decent.
Highlights: "Tour Bus", "Rock Bottom", "Bredren", "Dyckman".
Rating: 6/10.
