Collaborative tape between Inglewood rapper Kenneth "Kenny Tea" Turner and Los Angeles-based production duo DirtyDiggs: for Kenny Tea it's the debut in the rap game, for the producers it's the first EP of 2021. Planet Asia is the only guest.
It opens up a good jazzy boom bap rhythm with nice samples, the MC spits out bars with a lively style. The second pick has a shrill chipmunk soul sample dominating Kenny Tea's youthful and lively delivery, backed up by a good light drum. DirtyDiggs delivers a glossy rhythm in "Silence or scopes", boom bap with deep, tight looped horn samples in support of the rapper's slow and inspired delivery. Planet Asia is featured on track number four, on an acceptable production: DirtyDiggs provides a messy musical carpet with curious and lively samples, the guys bring out an ordinary performance.
The next track doesn't stand out from the rest of the tape, while the sixth choice is two songs in one: "Pieces Tucked" features a simple soundscape, with synthesized piano samples, and a slow syncopated delivery of Kenny Tea, while "Wit the business" has a minimal beat played with a more lively and quick style by Inglewood's MC. There's a splendid horn sample in the finale, which precedes the last joint, a song with another light horn sample and a lounge / mobb mood.
Consisting of 7 tunes for a total of about 17 minutes, it's an honest and accessible tape. 6/10.
