Xmas tape tribute to Biggie. Cookin Soul opens this tape with a xmas skit on light beat, then Biggie starts on a rhythmic boom bap with soul samples in the background. Another skit, then boom bap jazzy with female soul sample in the background on the hook, fit rhythm with the choice of the song. Rhythm which is based on a nice sample of Al Green.
Cookin Soul takes Ghostface's "Three Bricks" from "Fishcale", a cut that features Biggie's verse from "Life After Death"'s "Niggas Bleed" and a second verse by Raekwon before Ghost's, both paying tribute to Biggie. Great cut. "Thinking Gifts" has a good jazzy soul rhythm with a bridge on the hook and a soulful male sample in the second part. After another skit, simple and hardcore jazzy boom bap, good carpet for Biggie's hardcore delivery. The next cut is a smooth one, introductory soulful sample, Biggie's attack that drops a single verse, wonderful light jazzy rhythm. "BIG Santa" follows, rhythmic, light jazzy production, g-funk nuance, excellent extract from Biggie. Skit, therefore essential, modernized, frenetic jazzy rhythm, Biggie blows everything away with a frightening hardcore delivery. It's one of the strongest cuts of the tape, followed by the classic "Juicy" xmas version: lively jazzy rhythm, simple boom bap, Biggie's contemptuous delivery, hardcore, devastating. Sample Christmas soul on the hook. "Snow Dreams" is one of the last tracks: light jazzy rhythm, simple boom bap with sample soul in the background, good extract from Biggie. The umpteenth skit follows (five out of fifteen in total), closes one of the best songs of the tape: light and relaxing jazzy beat, male soulful sample, calm and flowing delivery of Biggie.
Highlights: "Home for Xmas (Bricks)", "Come On!", "Juicy Xmas", "Thoughts Under the Xmas Tree"
Rating: 7/10.
