C-Bo — Tales From the Crypt

C-Bo is easily at its finest on its second studio album, released two years after the debut and a year after its previous effort, an EP. Production is handled by Mobboss Production, Mike Mosley & Sam Bostic, along with DJ Daryl, also helped by D-Wiz, Troy-B, and Rodney. Guests are Marvaless, Snap, Tuna Bug and Mississippi.

Sacramento rapper goes down hard, watch him on the cover, he's bad, he mainly deals with murder and violence, together with drugs, bravado and various gangsterisms on a competent funky production, almost functional to rap itself. The rhythms revolve around a hard boom bap composed of dry midtempo drums, funky and mobb, dark samples, squeaky g-funk synths, and melodic instruments that hide the real economy of the beats in a well way, while the contributions of the guests try in vain to mitigate the precise violence of C-Bo's hardcore bars. Released by AWOL Records, the album is one of the hits of the season, entering the top 100 of the pop chart, and reaching box number four of rap albums, one of the best sellers of the hip-hop year. Robust and cohesive, it's welcomed in a mixed way according to the level of Culture of the professional reviewers, as an amateur, what I can point out is that it will make hard rap fans happy. 7.5/10.
