Too $hort — Shorty the Pimp

"Shorty the Pimp" is Oakland veteran Todd Shaw's seventh effort. At the time, he was the only one who could boast so many albums in his discography among hip-hop artists and even has some platinum certifications from the RIAA.

He doesn't change the theme, remaining firm on the pimping as for all his previous works, nor the technique of delivery, slow syncopated; there are few variations both in the chosen topics, although sometimes it goes towards battle rap and sometimes even towards more socio-conscious themes, both in the rhythms, which in this seventh LP have jazzy vibes: the production is provided almost entirely by Ant Banks, who brings out simple, lean and slow beats, with a good slow light drum machine, funky bass lines and honest samples.

The album is decent enough despite the listening time exceeding the hour — no track drops below four minutes — despite there is some hip house attempt and tracks taken beyond the normal length ("Hoes" at six minutes, "No Love from Oakland "at over eight, and the latest one, "Something to Ride to", at twelve, helped by eclectic piano scattered in background), Ant Banks somehow makes audible these stories you've heard on previous Too Short albums. 6/10.
