Too $hort — Get In Where You Fit In

Eighth album in Too Short's career. The Oakland veteran becomes one of the artists with the largest discography in hip-hop and even in this case he doesn't change his formula: funky rhythms 'n pimping lyrics.

Ant Banks and the rest of the Dangerous Crew are the major producers of the project, they provide boom bap funky rhythms, tasting the new g-funk sound, but without making many concessions to it and continuing to tread the hand on heavy bass lines, light-hearted synths, skeletal and slow drums and funky samples.

The rapper's lyrical choice is similar to that present in his previous efforts, here he decides to propose again previously published tracks and reissues, bloating the album up to 75 minutes, despite thirteen songs: removed the intro, the shortest one is of four and a half minutes, and most of the tracks are exhausting, with choices of six, seven and over eight minutes, which he never manages to revive due to a lazy, bland flow, and limited technical skills.

The guests add little to the project: there are Ant Banks, Mhisani, Pee Wee, Spice 1 and local rappers Bad-N-Fluenz, a duo made up of Rappin' Ron & Ant Diddley Dog who spit something into the title track, dissing to MC Pooh, rapper who left the Dangerous Crew due to differences with the collective. FM Blue has ample space in the final cut, on a good funky rhythm with good samples. Spice 1 rip his spot with the best flow of the LP. However, most of the record is forgettable, too long even by early nineties standards, and listening is unnecessary unless you are a completist. Recommended exclusively for Bay Area fans, there are some interesting beats between hip dance and hip house vibes that help the tape soar through the charts: it was his biggest commercial success at the time and his second in career, coming first on rap records and fourth on the pop chart, being certified platinum by the RIAA over a year later.

Rating: 6/10.
