Defari — Truth Serum

Defari, formerly Likwit, has been in the game since 1999 debuting with "Focused Daily", but by the middle of the following decade he had stopped, also following the crisis of the rap game. After a decade of absence from the scene, since some years ago he has returned to release material, pretty satisfactory material. Taking advantage of today's trend of the extended EP, Defari can throw bragga and casual bars for about twenty minutes filling several short cuts.

DirtyDiggs production is essential and effective. "Set Face" has a nice boom bap rockin' rhythm with sparse and syncopated drum machine and a slow delivery of Defari. "Phillinganz" presents a splendid female soul sample looped tight in the background and a simple and minimal, jazzy rhythm, with a tight drum machine and a tight, shiny and clear delivery. "Do the Word of Paul" is the shortest song of the project, Defari shows a flowing flow on a rhythm that recalls the Eurodance scene with hip house vibes or similar and electro bridge.

An excellent jazzy rhythm follows with a sample of saxophone looped in the background, confused percussions, cheerful and light-hearted not-sober delivery. Flashius Clayton is the first guest on the album, in "Music Forever", skinny jazzy boom bap and decent deliveries. Phil The Agony is the last guest of the album: the rhythm of "SoCal Fire" is similar to that of "Supreme Love", cheerful, simple, dance / hip house rhythm, homage to the electro dance scene, Defari slow and hardcore syncopated delivery while The Agony goes away with more agility, smooth, powerful and with a hardcore style that sweeps away the whole Eurodance rhythm, including the excellent male soul-R&B-new jack sample looped tight in the background, without hesitation.

"Movement" has a simple and epic rhythm, hardcore boom bap, slow delivery of Defari and extravagant bridge on the chorus. "25 Matthew" sees a slow and syncopated delivery on a lean and tight rhythm, with a soulful female sample looped tight in the background, dope. The last joint is "Don't Be Stingy": simple, jazzy rhythm, female soulful sample looped tight in the background, dope, Defari's light smooth syncopated delivery, functional hook, almost ballad eurodance rhythm, perfect for ballad, with luxurious arches in the background, then closes a skit outro on jazzy vibes.

Rating: 7/10.
