Quando Rondo — QPac

«One, two, three, and to the four
One Pac, two Pac, three Pac, four
Four Pac, three Pac, two Pac, one
You're Pac, he's Pac, no Pac, none» (Rabbit, 8 Mile, 2002)

From Savannah, Georgia, Tyquian Terrel Bowman is Quando Rondo, and Quando Rondo is QPac for his debut album, coming launched from three mixtapes released in the previous two years.

The quote I entered above isn't casual, and it's the first thing that came to mind — and that should come to your mind — when I read the title of the album. Was there anything more offensive? Making a generic and mediocre trap record. This first studio album by Quando Rondo isn't nearly as generic and mediocre as its trap contemporaries, but the disc title alone plays heavily against him: he has finally decent trap production, finally accessible in a trap album, the snare drum doesn't it annoys too much, there are light jazzy vibes and his syncopated delivery doesn't give me problems personally, unlike that of other more popular trappers.

He varies his style several times between singing, rapping and speaking, on trap rhythms simple with jazzy vibes and often there's a light piano to accompany its gangsta bars. Sometimes the rhythms fall into the simplistic, especially from the second part onwards, when the album starts to swell (at twelve tracks, it would have been among the best trap records of the season) with repetitive cuts that don't completely convince, however it remains one of the few decent trap products of 2020, accessible, smooth, relaxed: in its first part, where is also supported by guests, Rondo is pretty good, enough to live on income in the second, when the album drops of quality and the boy returns to repeat himself several times with braggadocio and g themes on the same beats, which soon begin to become generic.

Highlights: "Real Love", proves he can handle a track on his own, which is rare for 2020 trappers; sung hook, decent delivery, good snare drum, decent jazzy trap rhythm. "Poetic Justice", simple, jazzy rhythm, no drum machine, spoken delivery, simple hook, elegant looped light piano and distant sax sample. "Marvelous", jazzy boom bap with trap vibes, great light piano, syncopated deliveries of Quando Rondo and Polo G. "Bad Vibe", simple rhythm, snare drum, dark piano, syncopated delivery and catchy chorus, good guests.

Rating: 6/10.
