Buckwild — Abandoned Beats Vol. 1

Buckwild's instrumental record remained completely ignored by critics: the cause is that people don't have much memory, they're tired of the jazzy beats and this choice of beats doesn't deserve due attention. The CD is released by Kurrup Money, label revived by the artist two decades after the label's last efforts.

The talented producer knocks out 19 rhythms, for an excessive total duration of over an hour, most of the production offered is decent, but not too above average. He chooses simple and minimal jazzy rhythms accompanied by an essential and tight boom bap: on pianos, sax, flugelhorn and dope strings, Buckwild adds some alien element to the genre that helps music take a less boring path than sound mild chosen for this output. In addition to guitar riffs, dominant church organs and dark vibes, the producer especially relies on perennial synths in the background that grip several of the best cuts on this album.

In particular, the beatmaker realizes two interesting instrumentals in the first part of the record. "The Hood" presents a boom bap jazzy with synth forever stretched, light piano in the background, dark rhythm [that seems to come] from a disturbing thriller scene. The second is "Strong Grip", comes soon after, has an excellent tense and dark production, an urgent and gloomy boom bap with a good selection of elements that form a real beat, it seems alive in another classic thriller scene: it's trapped in the darkest hour of the night in a tight bleak alley and face to face with the serial killer who slowly approaches him with a knife in his hand.

Other rare noteworthy rhythms include "Are You With Me?", a simple and minimal production with synths stretched in the background, dope strings with a Morricone-style epic-western flavor around halfway through the cut, and a vivid, energetic boom bap, cheerful and crackling in "Bad Dream", positive vibes with dark traits.

Highlights: "Still Poor", "My Niggaz", "The Hood", "Strong Grip", "Cartel", "Are You With Me?", "Bad Dream".

Rating: 7/10.
