Lil Wayne — Funeral

Bloated, devoid of the general theme assumed by the title or of any lyrical depth, this Lil' Wayne album features few highs and many lows, several bad hooks and too many fillers.

He delivers effortlessly, easily, perhaps too easily on these generic and tasteless trap rhythms, dropping trivial lyrics and some good lines. The first tracks are promising and subsequently there are some quality or decent cuts ("Dreams", "Bing James", "Harden", "Piano Trap"), but the record's overall mediocre, generally bland and inconsistent in its excessive length. Guests generally don't stand out positively. Among the worst tracks there are "Clap for Em" (party tune with simplistic and tight beat) and "Get Outta My Head" w/ XXXTentacion (slow silenthillian rhythm, musically bad conceived).

Note: the tributes to the late Kobe — the twenty-four seconds of silence at the end of the eighth track, "Bing James" — are to be appreciated.

Rating: 5.3/10.
