Rick Hyde — Plates 2 on the Way EP

Up-and-coming rapper from Buffalo Rick Hyde, a member of the Black Soprano Family, releases an EP consisting of four tracks for a total of ten minutes of listening. Distributed by BSF Records, it's produced almost entirely by the author, who leaves a rhythm to J. Oliver, while he keeps things up in Buffalo, calling BSF guys Benny & Heem to rapping, and the Griselda affiliate Elcamino as external guest.

The first track features an interesting drums pattern, a snare trap in background, and a lively slow and accessible one on the surface, with honest samples to accommodate Rick Hyde's youthful and fresh quick delivery. "Hard Times" features a good jazzy rhythm by J. Oliver, with slow syncopated drum machine and decent samples: annoying hook by Elcamino, smooth delivery by Benny the Butcher, fresh, hardcore, quick, dope, sometimes overbeat, then Rick Hyde spits syncopated, slow, confident, inspired. The third song features Heem, member of the Black Soprano Family: eclectic rhythm, with frenetic, light and accessible vibrating drum, good hardcore energetic delivery of the two performers. It closes a solo by Rick Hyde on his own rhythm, a simple jazzy boom bap with an excellent horn sample: the beat is glossy, with a lively drum accessible, tight and dynamic, and a sad and gloomy piano in the background. On this complex carpet, the MC delivers the last bars of the project.

Overall, it's an honest thug / mafia EP, Rick Hyde gives a taste for his sophomore, sequel to the debut "Plates" (2019), originally scheduled to be released on this date. 7/10.
