Da Last Future — Devil's Most Wanted 1994 EP

After releasing a tape of unreleased material by Hell Razah in November 2015 and one by Shabazz the Disciple in February 2016, Chopped Herring Records is also releasing material by Da Last Future, the progenitor group of Sunz of Man who had recorded a few songs in the mid-nineties.

Four of the six songs proposed in this release are already present in the first and only official project published in 1994 by the Brooklyn group, of which this version is a reissue with a couple of additional bonus tracks: "Livin in Hell", "Mental Combat", "Mental Combat II" and "Evil Lulla Bye" are songs already known to Sunz of Man fans, being also included in the 1999 bootleg album "The First Testament" and its subsequent 2004 reissue "Elements", which also serves as the third official studio album of the New York group. Added to these tracks are the unreleased tracks "Diamonds" and "Devil's Most Wanted", both of which close the respective sides of the vinyl released by Chopped Herring.

Not easy to find, even though both were leaked on the internet at some point, the two tracks become available on a new official Sunz of Man release due out in 2024. "Diamonds", also known as "Falling Diamonds", boasts a beautiful bass line, downtempo drums, good samples and an overall effective and elegant rhythm created by Supreme. Hell Razah's intro and sustained hook, slow and solid delivery of the Red Hook emcee who flies on this rhythm. The other track, which turns out to be the title track of this second EP by Last Future, features a dry and minimal drum accompanied by a vibrant bass and melancholic, dark and sad samples. On this panicked rhythm, the Smith brothers aka Hell Razah & Tray Bag unleash themselves together with Zodiac Killah.

Recommended to Sunz of Man fans who failed to take the other release, this one is practically a duplicate of the previous one. 8/10.
