Among the efforts most appreciable from the miami bass scene, part of the credit goes to the accessible rhythms provided by DJ Toomp, Shy D himself and DJ Mike Fresh. Overall, it's a fairly quick and accessible, but generic album.
The skinny-n-raw rhythm is the main protagonist here and the drum machine always does its job, often skeletal and minimal, to support the light-hearted and decent delivery of the MC, also aided by some scratched functional hook. "I Don't Want to Treat You Wrong" deserves a note: ballad rhythm, glossy, jazzy-soulful, slow beat with minimal and skeletal drum machine; Shy D delivers regular and almost whispering, hook sung. Wonderful sample of "Between the Sheets" by the Isley Brothers.
The other tracks don't stand out too much from the average of the genre, although the album has some deserving variations such as frenetic drum machines, faster rhythms and deliveries, guitar riffs ("I Don't Play", "Shake It"), ballad bridges ("Atlanta That's Where I Stay"), R&B dance bridges ("I Wanna Dance") and some nice samples to support the tracks. It's one of the best-selling rap albums of the season (#35 on the rnb chart), another success for Skyywalker Records.
