Westside Gunn & Conway — Hall and Nash EP

Westside Gunn & Conway the Machine appear on the same album under the name Hall-N-Nash.

After the introductory skit, Camoflauge Monk draws a jazzy midtempo painting, usually Griselda boom bap, with a dark background over which the two rappers exchange verses. "Red Tops" follows: great subdued, midtempo jazzy rhythm by Camoflauge Monk, Conway starts with a slow and smooth delivery, second verse to WSG + final skit. The following song presents another production by Monk and is another excellent work, amazing boom bap jazzy again subdued and midtempo, above which the duo unleashes.

K-Sluggah provides a nice beat with soulful samples looped in the background, unique verse delivered by Westside Gunn for the fifth song. Then comes "Pray for Buffalo": incredible sample of "Frente a Frente" by Jeanette, excellent boom bap jazzy by Camoflauge Monk and excellent delivery by Westside, smooth and a little faster and more technical than usual, without hook (left to the amazing sample looped), then Conway quickly deliver to "send to sleep" the beat. The following tracks cannot be up to par, however "Anybody" is quite good with its drier, clearer and cooler sound: bleak, heavy and essential jazzy rhythm, the track sees Daringer's entry into the album, even if it suffers from a hook that isn't too guessed.

"Pat La Fontaine" has a faster jazzy production than usual, the two brothers deliver quickly, smoothly: Westside Gunn takes it easy however, good flow. Pretty nice jazzy bridge with guitar licks towards the end of the track. It would be the end of the album, if it weren't for a bonus that resides in the title track, Daringer's third consecutive work borrowed from "Hitler Wears Hermes II", Westside Gunn's mixtape of the previous year: Westside swaps bars with Conway back and forth in Rae & Ghost style, in one of the first tracks that attracted these comparisons to the Buffalo rappers (I guess), on a dark, hard rhythm, even here the tight and shiny loop makes the difference.

Highlights: "Red Tops", "Off White", "Pray For Buffalo", "Hall & Nash".
