Dom Pachino — Power Rulez

Dom Pachino on solo studio album number six, considering that "Domination" is effectively a mixtape. Fifth and last album by him released by Chambermusik. Production is credited to Falling Down, Dom Pachino, PR Terrorist (still him), DJ Chulo, Hushh Entertainment, Shawneci, Mr. Bomba, DJ CIA, and Team Napalm producer Dub Sonata. Guests are 9th Prince & Islord of Killarmy, Live Brim, Vito Pamagari, Shyheim, and Crunch Lo of Team Napalm.

It's a long trip. 17 tracks, one intro, two skits. The selection of rhythms chosen by the "first Latin rapper to come out of Staten Island" is not good enough to stand out above the ailing hip-hop scene of 2008, and in an even simpler sense, it's not good. The only musically good track is "Shot U Down", and it's something weird and incomprehensible until you go see the credits and read that the rhythm is the work of Falling Down, an obscure affiliate of the Wu-Tang Clan and close to joining the Wu-Element: although not adequately rewarded by a mix that perhaps did not exist, the producer chooses a beautiful sample for this track, straight from Nancy Sinatra's wonderful "Bang Bang", while the Killarmy rapper makes various thug statements.

The lyrics are so poorly written that I wish I could say that they are abstract, almost nothing is understood, there's a lot of confusion. Dom Pachino hasn't gotten over the end of Killarmy yet, and he also takes it out on the fake Wu affiliates. The whole disk is still battle rap with tracks full of gangsteristic, criminal and violent bars, a song for his woman and a dissing to the critics. It's not clear to which critics this dissing is addressed, because no one seems to have listened to this or any other solo album by Dom Pachino. It's actually a random dissing towards critics in general, a filler track to complete the record. He also rehearses the narrative in "Without Stitches", a deplorable attempt in which he describes a predictable story à la Tony Montana by comparing himself to the character played by Al Pacino.

This CD is one of the dullest, most generic and uninspired drug rap / thug rap efforts of the period. 4/10.
