Millyz x Statik Selektah — Saints & Sinners

Collaborative project between rapper Millyz and producer Statik Selektah, both from Massachusetts, originally from Cambridge and Lawrence respectively. The album features guests such as Annalese, Jadakiss, Dyce Payne and Termanology, and is entirely produced by Statik.

This is one of the best rhythm selections of him, he draws a dynamic, fresh and lively soundscape, choosing excellent patterns of drums and melodic samples that give life to positive and fantastic boom bap beats. Millyz's rap is slow, regular, without infamy and without praise, he's fit on these musical carpets and he finds himself swapping bars with some East Coast rappers: in addition to the singer Annalese, who does a good work in "Glum", and the usual Termanology, a permanent and mandatory presence in every Statik effort, there are Dyce Payne and Jadakiss. In particular, the MC of LOX is among the protagonists of "Let It Go", a song that stands out as the best of the disc: Statik Selektah creates phenomenal rhythm, relentless dry and hard midtempo drum, smooth sax sample, vibes a little dark / noir film, creating a soundscape on which the interpreters deliver like silk. You get the feeling that if Jada had ten beats of this quality, he could finally come up with a masterpiece LP. It's a shame that this album ends up buried in the massive Statik discography, because this is one of the best projects of him and it's a brilliant showcase for the talent of the emerging Millyz. 7/10.
