Diddy Dirty Money — Last Train to Paris

For his new album, Sean Combs aka Diddy joins the rnb group Dirty Money, a duo formed by the singers Dawn Richard & Kalenna Harper in 2009 and disbanded in 2012. Among the 21 producers of the tape, Swizz Beatz, Mario Winans, Danja, and Sean "Puffy" Combs stand out. Guests are Swizz Beatz, Usher, Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, Justin Timberlake, The Notorious BIG, Trey Songz, T.I., Bilal, Grace Jones, Rick Ross, Wiz Khalifa, Skylar Grey, Sevyn Streeter, James Fauntleroy and Drake. Diddy guesses a right selection of songs, all more or less good and not too bad and, helped by the melodic singing of Richard & Harper, he makes his best album.

The tape is experimental, in the author's intention it should be an effort that mixes electro, hip-hop, soul and funk, for others it's a house record, and still others label it under nine different musical genres. Most of the time, the music isn't good and there are guests like Chris Brown, Swizz Beatz, Usher, Timberlake, Drake, Skylar Grey, Wiz Khalifa, etc. It shouldn't work, but the tape wobbles every now and then and never collapses. The highlight comes with "Angels": Diddy steals a sample from Jay-Z and steals a piece of verse to "My Downfall" from Biggie's posthumous LP, which he recycles twice, building one of his best post-1997 songs. Released by Interscope, the album is critically and publicly acclaimed, stopping at third place among rnb records and seventh in the pop chart. 6/10.
