Tape tribute to Isaac Hayes, with Cookin Soul that provides soulful and jazzy instrumental, some better that others.
After a skit from "Shaft" movie theme, the producer offers several great [jazzy] soulful rhythm 'til "Joy", splendid jazzy soulful cheerful track, pretty nice rhythmic. Another jazzy soul beat, then "Breakthrough", boom bap with soul jazzy vibes and a rockin' riff bridge on the hook, rockin' riff solo after the hook. Skit, then an extravagant beat, before three among the best track present in this tape. Hayes vicious line accomplished an amazing jazzy soulful production, cheerful, with a female background in the finale. Then "Look of Love", another wonderful instrumental, from the song that Irv Gotti used to create that classic that's "Can I Live" is, by Jay-Z (1995, "Reasonable Doubt"). The next piece is another classic one: Cookin Soul can't go wrong. This instrumental pay homage to that one from "Tough Guys" (1974 movie) that Geto Boys has used to create "Mind Playing Tricks on Me", classic. Used by basically ever MCs in the following years, and popularized by Kodak Black with "Transportation" at the end of the two thousand and ten years. The tape is closed by other four songs that aren't at the high level of the previous ones, with some jazzy soulful vibes. Closed a bonus, "When It Takes", pretty nice jazzy cheerful beat, with soul female background.
Highlights: "A Few More Kisses", "Lonely", "Joy", "Moonlight Lovin", "Look of Love", "Hung Up on My Baby", "What It Takes".
Rating: 7/10.
