Napoleon da Legend & Giallo Point — Street Universe

Third collaborative album between French-born rapper Napoleon da Legend and English producer Giallo Point. Ren Thomas, J-Scienide, Sicknature, Micall Parknsun, Scorzayzee, El Gant and John Robinson are the guests of the tape.

Composed of 13 tracks and 36 minutes, the album boasts an excellent jazzy production based almost exclusively on elegant piano loops combined with other instrumental, melodic and dry samples, and with slow and tight drums. The Paris-born MC based in Brooklyn delivers abstract bars at his finest, with a raw, rough, slow, calm and velvety style, sometimes hardcore, often confident and inspired by great beats. Among the guests no one disappoints and everyone spits quite worthily, creating a solid and compact record, among the most hidden gems in the underground circuit. Recommended to East Coast and jazz rap fans.

Highlights: "Day of Reckoning", "Cheat Code", "Harakiri", "3 Fourths" (perfect soundscape: brilliant piano loop, melodic sample, distant drum; velvety delivery), "Devil's Playground" (sad, elegant, fantastic piano loop; sad female melodic soul sample, lean midtempo drum, smooth and inspired delivery of Napoleon, who manages to keep the noir and dark mood of the beat), "Better Off Living".

Rating: 7.7/10.
