KXNG Crooked x Bronze Nazareth — Gravitas

Judging by the tracklist, this should be one of the albums of the year. Bronze Nazareth produces rhythms for the socio-conscious bars and the powerful flow of KXNG Crooked, with a sensational cast of guests, Snoop Dogg, Ghostface Killah, RZA, La the Darkman, Killah Priest, Hus Kingpin, Ras Kass, Bishop Lamont, PURE, Compton Menace, Planet Asia, Tristate, Benny the Butcher, 38 Spesh, Bronze Nazareth, Kevlaar 7, Statik Selektah, Royce and DMX.

Bronze's East Coast boom bap production is enjoyable, steeped in jazz and soul loops, and dusted with solid drum patterns, while the Long Beach rapper performs inspired lyrics with some great flows. The album starts well and suggests from the first few minutes that the guys already accustomed to Bronze's musical paintings in the past, will perform better than the others: Killah Priest ("Outer Limits"), Wisemen ("Change Ur Beliefs"), La the Darkman ("French Connection") and Ghostface ("Buck Shots Remix") dominate their songs and in general, few guests disappoint by going on autopilot or underperforming, leaving KXNG Crooked with few moments in which to express his potential, retaining just two solo choices out of fourteen.

The remixes add little substance and don't sound essential, despite the load of important guests they welcome, and if you remove the skits, there's a sort of stretched-EP composed by seven tracks that ends up being a bit scattered. Overall, the album is a worthy listen to fans and a welcome addition to both artists' discography. 7/10.
