Esham — Judgement Day Vol. 2 - Night

Officially, it's Esham's third studio album, it's actually the second part of "Judgment Day", the second record from the Michigan pioneer rapper, often rightly considered inferior to the Day Side.

The MC maintains a tight and deadly lyricism, with the arguments already addressed in the first side and here too retains some sexual cut, taking away space from horrorcore. The production is darker than on disc one, always with some rock samples and a lean, tight syncopated drum machine, while Esham delivers with his slow hardcore syncopated style.

Like the previous one, this effort also lacks a concept and the generic production sinks it towards the end, with rhythms all similar to each other: the album is irregular, decent, with some commercial attempts, but also excellent choices including the title track, "The Devil Gets Funky", "Wake the Dead", "Sell Me Yo Soul", this last one's among his best in career: demonic intro that requires you to sell your soul to him, then boom bap fresh and lean, lively syncopated lo-fi drum machine, simple hook not interpreted with accessible sample. The production is decent and Esham's delivery is good, done in a smooth, slow style, rarely has he been so commercially accessible, great tune.

Rating: 6/10.
