Spark 950 & Timbo King — United We Slam EP

Unique act of the Brooklyn hip-hop duo composed of Spark 950 & Timothy "Timbo King" Drayton, who in 1994 shows up in the underground game with a 26-minute EP, 11 cuts and 5 skits, practically every track is followed by a skit.

The duo reserves all the space for rapping, while the skits are contributions offered by Crew, Darkman the Mad African and Kay Zee. Production, recording and mixing are provided by Spark 950, and the tape is released by independent Street Life Records and Scotti Bros.

The record features solid East Coast boom bap rhythms and good samples, which adequately support the duo's thug bars. On these hard jazzy beats, with syncopated and slow drum machines, the two rappers deliver with a smooth and hardcore style, yet their lyricism isn't memorable. Short and pleasant listening, recommended for fans of East Coast rap. They don't stand out commercially and critics ignore the product: Spark 950's career ends, while Timbo King doesn't give up and soon becomes a Killa Bee, being part of Royal Fam, Black Market Militia and Maccabeez.

Rating: 7/10.
