Rampage aka Rated-X aka Hell Razah — Death to the Head 1990-1991 EP

In 2015, Chopped Herring released a short tape made in the early nineties by Rampage aka Rated-X aka Hell Razah aka Heaven Razah aka Chron Smith, when he was the youngest member of the Red Hook Mad Mob crew, which also consisted of David "Scientific Shabazz" Collins, Ian "7th Ambassador" Bellido and producer Alaric "Supreme Kourt" Wilder, all part of the future group Sunz of Man.

The tape gives you an indication of the precocious talent of this young boy who escaped the criminal underworld of Red Hook, these tracks being recorded at a time when he was between 13 and 15 years old. 7th Ambassador, who remained in the Sunz of Man for a short time immediately after the foundation, is present in the last two tracks, for the rest of the time Rampage spits hardcore on hardcore rhythms, the production is raw, stubborn and very hard, made by Su-Preme.

It's an interesting tape to see how Hell Razah sounded and said at a time when Wu had yet to be a thing, nevertheless I find that both tapes of Da Last Future ("Da Last Future" and "Devil's Most Wanted 1994 EP", the latter released a year later by the Chopped Herring label), group progenitor of Sunz of Man, are better. The tape goes hand in hand with the one printed by Chopped Herring for the catalog of Scientific Shabazz ("Blow Em Up Bazz 1989-1991 Demos EP"), made up of recordings from the same time period. 6/10.
